To upgrade your firewall to the latest version of PAN-OS:

  1. Review PAN-OS, GlobalProtect & User-ID: Preferred Release Guidance from Support Perspective 

    1. Review the Release Notes for the selected version

    2. Also take a look at Upgrade/Downgrade Considerations (or equivalent docs applicable to your version) to make sure you understand all potential changes the PAN-OS release might introduce.

  2. Check for new PAN-OS releases:

    • On the firewall: Select Device, then Software and Check Now for the firewall to check with the Palo Alto Networks Update Server for new PAN-OS release versions.

    • On the support portal: Go to support.paloaltonetworks.com and, on the left menu bar, select Updates, then Software Updates. Download and save the release you want to use to upgrade the firewall.

  3. Once you’ve decided the release version you want, follow the complete workflow to upgrade the firewall to a new PAN-OS version (or equivalent docs applicable to your version). The steps you will take might depend on the release version you’re currently running.
