Open access WiFi points are also increasingly being made available through private businesses. Several retail and food chains have partnered with ISPs to provide wireless access in their locations, such as McDonalds’ partnership with Bell.

The motivation for offering this service includes keeping customers engaged in the business longer, analyzing customer behaviour, and in retail, facilitating comparison shopping in order to induce purchases.82
